New Advanced Leader Bronze and New Memory Techniques

MALATE, MANILA — Maharlika Club Vice President for Membership Amir Acosta CC CL has completed all the requirements to attain his Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB) norm, September 19, at Missionway Manpower Building.

The Meeting was lead by Bruno Tangangco CC, a guest Toastmaster of the Evening from Landbank Toastmasters Club. Bruno Tangangco CC taught everyone techniques on how to remember details and maximize memorization skills. The visualization technique had the Maharlikans visualize a castle, a lake and a mountain, but later filled those images with more and more details. Despite the additions of more and more details, the technique proved to be effective as nobody forgot all the details throughout the meeting!

When the Educational Session began, Bruno Tangangco CC replaced the Word of the Night with a challenge to use an onomatopeia instead. Afterwards, Nicole Uy CC CL lead the Table Topics session featuring a choice of quote or prompt.

Two speakers delivered their Prepared Speeches. The first speaker was Johnlloyd Nagera TM, who delivered his third Basic Speech Project. He spoke about the importance of reaching out to school campuses in order to guide the next generation. The second speaker was Emma Lining TM, who delivered her sixth Basic Speech Project. She spoke about her humorous predicament with a fire alarm. After the prepared speakers. Amir Acosta CC CL gave a presentation from the Successful Club Series on “Finding new members for your club”.

The Evaluation Session began with the General Evaluator Ed Fabonan DTM testing everybody’s memory with a short trick problem. Jesse James Llamado CC CL evaluated the Basic Speech project of Johnlloyd Nagera TM. Nicole Uy CC CL evaluated the Basic Speech Project of Emma Lining TM.

The Maharlikans enjoyed their first meeting in a new venue. They also cheered as Amir Acosta CC CL completed all his Leadership requirements when he gave his presentation from the Successful Club Series, earning him his Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB) norm. And as the meeting ended, the Maharlikans could still remember all the details added to the castle, the lake and the mountain.

Maharlikans grab more wins in the Division L Speech Contests

MALATE, MANILA — Representing Area 92, two Maharlikans performed splendidly in the Division L Evaluation Speech Contest and Humorous Speech Contest attaining two awards, September 9, at Landbank Plaza.

The Division L Speech Contests began with the Evaluation Speech Contest. The Test Speaker gave a speech about the values of honesty and integrity, while being evaluated by the four Evaluation Speech Contestants. Among them was Area 92 Representative and Maharlikan Amir Acosta CC CL. After the Test Speaker finished speaking, the contestants each delivered their own Evaluation Speech to the Test Speaker while the judges were watching. The Evaluation Speech Contest ended when all the contestants finished giving their evaluation.

There were three contestants in the Humorous Speech Contest. One of the contestants was Area 92 Representative and Maharlikan Kenley Liong ACB. Each contestant delivered a humorous speech while the judges were watching. Everyone had a good time laughing during the competition.

Despite the tough competition in the contests, the Maharlikans continued to show how competent they are. Amir Acosta CC CL won 2nd place in the Evaluation Speech Contest, while Kenley Liong ACB won 1st place in the Humorous Speech Contest. Other Maharlikans present include Phebe Pendon CC, Emma Lining TM, Lui Asuncion TM, Nelly Ampuan TM, Yves Liong CC, Nicole Uy CC CL, Ed Fabonan DTM, Rojan Mercader CC and Daryl Zamora ACB ALB.

On October 13-15, Kenley Liong ACB will represent Division L and will compete in the (National Level) District Level Humorous Speech Contest during the District 75 Midyear Convention (MIDCON) in Bacolod City.

Maharlikans inspired to volunteer

PACO, MANILA — The Maharlikans experience a meeting full of volunteers and no voluntelling, September 5, at Garden Plaza Hotel.

A series of setbacks did not stop the Maharlikans from having another great meeting. While Jesse James Llamado CC CL, the Toastmaster of the Evening, was faced with obstacles on his way to the meeting, Nicole Uy CC CL volunteered to be the Toastmaster of the Evening in his stead. Nicole Uy CC CL was able to show and teach the power of volunteering, inspiring the Maharlikans to volunteer in the various portions of the meeting.

The educational session started with Johnlloyd Nagera TM giving the Word of the Day. It was shortly followed by the Table Topics portion lead by Daryl Zamora ACB ALB. The Table Topics speakers volunteered to speak, much to everyone’s surprise as this was an uncommon scenario.

There were two prepared speakers. The first speaker was Lui Asuncion TM, who delivered his Ice Breaker Speech. The second speaker was Phebe Pendon CC, who delivered an Advanced Speech Project where she entertained everyone with an amusing story about people’s names. After the prepared speech projects, Nicole Uy CC CL gave a presentation about “Controlling Your Fear”. Finally, Kenley Liong ACB delivered his Humorous Speech as practice for the upcoming Division L Speech Contest.

The evaluation session was lead by Rojan Mercader CC, who volunteered to take on the role of General Evaluator. Bruno Tangangco CC evaluated the speech project  of Lui Asuncion TM. Amir Acosta CC CL evaluated the speech project of Phebe Pendon CC. Amir Acosta CC CL took this as an opportunity to practice his evaluation speech for the upcoming Division L Speech Contest.

The Toastmaster of the Evening Jesse James Llamado CC CL ended the meeting with a message about volunteerism. He encouraged everyone to share their blessings and to reach out and volunteer to lend a hand to those in need.

Maharlikans gain more knowledge about intelligence

PACO, MANILA — The Maharlikans answered a series of brain teasing questions shared by the Toastmaster of the Evening Ed Fabonan DTM, August 29, at Garden Plaza Hotel.

A series of brain teasing questions greeted the Maharlikans at the beginning of the meeting headed by the Toastmaster of the Evening Ed Fabonan DTM. He explained the history of IQ(Intelligence Quotient) and how we, as a society, view and use it in our everyday lives. Ed Fabonan DTM also explained the different types of intelligence and how it related to IQ tests and IQ levels.

The Educational session started with Kenley Liong ACB giving the Word of the Day. It was shortly followed by a mind exercising Table Topics session lead by Amir Acosta CC CL.

Abib de los Santos TM delivers his second Basic Speech Project
There were four prepared speakers at the meeting. The first two speakers delivered their first Speech Projects for their Pathways Learning Experience. The first speaker was Chris Herrera CC, who delivered an Ice Breaker speech. The second speaker was Kenley Liong ACB, who also delivered an Ice Breaker speech. Both of them are experienced Toastmasters beginning their Pathways journey. The third prepared speaker for the night was Abib de los Santos TM, who delivered his second Basic Speech Project where he spoke about viewing life from behind the steering wheel. The fourth and final speaker for the night was Phebe Pendon CC, who delivered an Advance Speech Project. She gave a keynote address about the values of addressing the spiritual needs of a sick patient.

Chris Herrera CC lead the Evaluation Session as the General Evaluator. Nicole Uy CC CL evaluated the Table Topics portion of the meeting. Area 92 Speech Evaluation Champion Amir Acosta CC CL evaluated the speeches of Chris Herrera CC and Kenley Liong ACB. The speech of Abib de los Santos TM was evaluated by Phebe Phendon CC. Lastly, Ed Fabonan DTM evaluated the Keynote Address of Phebe Pendon CC.

The Maharlikans ended the meeting with more knowledge and increased intelligence. They took comfort in knowing that everyone is intelligent in their own unique way.

Maharlikans discover JKD and induct new members

PACO, MANILA — Toastmaster of the Evening Kenley Liong ACB demonstrated some  moves to the Maharlikans while explaining the concepts of Jeet Kune Do, August 22, at Garden Plaza Hotel.

The Maharlikans happily welcomed the two new members inducted into the club: Lui Asuncion TM and Amor Quevedo TM. The mentors of the newly inducted members are Nicole Uy CC CL and Phebe Pendon CC respectively.

The Toastmaster of the Evening Kenley Liong ACB introduced the Maharlikans to the concept of Jeet Kune Do, created by the iconic martial artist Bruce Lee. Kenley Liong ACB explained the history, the inspiration and the reasoning behind the martial art concept. He was also able to show a few demonstrations on some of the moves to the amusement of the club members.

The Educational Session started with Daryl Zamora ACB ALB giving the word of the evening. It was followed by the Table Topics Session lead by Phebe Pendon CC.

There were two Prepared Speech projects. The first speaker was Emma Lining TM, who delivered her fifth Basic Speech Project where she humorously talked about the dangers of debt and impulse buying. The second speaker was Phebe Pendon CC, who delivered her fourth Specialty Speech Project where she read aloud a portion from a book, sharing to everyone about a different point of view on commitments and relationships. After the Prepared Speech Projects, Amir Acosta CC CL gave an engaging and interactive Successful Club Series Presentation on how to Evaluate to Motivate.

After the Educational Session, Nicole Uy CC CL lead the Evaluation Session as the General Evaluator for the meeting. Ed Fabonan DTM evaluated the Table Topics Session as the Table Topics Evaluator. Rojan Mercader CC evaluated the Basic Speech Project of Emma Lining TM and Kenley Liong ACB evaluated the Specialty Speech Project of Phebe Pendon CC.

Ipinagdiwang ang Buwan ng Wika sa Maharlika

PACO, MANILA — Masayang nagsalita sa Wikang Filipino ang mga miyembro ng Maharlika sa taunang pagdiwang ng Buwan ng Wika, ika-15 ng Agosto,  sa Garden Plaza Hotel.

Isang taunang tradisyon ng Maharlika ang pagganap ng pagpupulong sa Wikang Filipino isang beses sa isang taon. Natuwa at nanibago ang mga miyembro ng Maharlika dahil halos lahat ng bahagi ng pagpupulong ay gagamitan ng Wikang Filipino. Ang Pinaghandaang Talumpati at ang mga panunuri ng mga ito lamang ang ginamitan ng Wikang Ingles. 

Pinamunuan ni Nicole Uy CC CL ang pagpupulong bilang Toastmaster ng Gabi. Naghanda siya ng mga magagandang kaalaman at mga biglaang pagsusulit tungkol sa kasaysayan ng mga kilalang tao sa kasaysayan ng Pilipinas. Unang tinawag ni Nicole Uy CC CL si Rojan Mercader CC para ibigay ang Salita ng Gabi. Pagkatapos ay itinawag si Kenley Liong ACB para ipamunuan ang sesyon ng Table Topics. Natuwa ang mga nagsalita sa paggamit ng Wikang Filipino para sa mga sagot nila sa Table Topics.

Tatlo ang nagbigay ng kanilang pinaghandaang talumpati sa Wikang Ingles. Unang nagsalita si Johnlloyd Nagera TM na nagbigay panayam tungkol sa nakababatang henerasyon. Ang ikalawang nagsalita ay si Eds Esparagoza TM na nagturo sa lahat tungkol sa kahalagahan ng paghahanda sa mga hinaharap na gastusin.At si Phebe Pendon CC ang ikatlong nagsalita at nagbigay siya ng isang talumpati na pambebenta. 

Pinamunuan ni Joevel Fernandez ACB ang Pagsusuri na Sesyon. Nagkaroon ng tawanan at kasiyahan sa buong Sesyon ng Pagsusuri. Si Bruno Tangangco CC ang tagapanuri ng mga Pinaghandaang Talumpati nina Johnlloyd Nagera TM at Eds Esparagoza TM. Si Kenley Liong ACB naman ang tagapanuri ng Pinaghandaang Talumpati ni Phebe Pendon CC. Naginhawa ng konti ang mga tagapanuri ng mga Pinaghandaang Talumpati dahil binigay nila ang mga ito gamit ang Wikang Ingles. 

Masayang natapos ang pagpupulong sa pagdiwang ng kaarawan at kasunduang pakasal ni Jesse James Llamado CC CL. Hindi na namalayan ng mga miyembro ng Maharlika ang paglipas ng oras dahil sa mga kasiyahan at sa mga bagong kaalaman. 

Maharlika Toastmasters Club ay isa sa libu-libong kabanata ng Toastmasters International sa buong mundo, na naglalayong bumuo ng mga mahuhusay na mga tagapagsalita at mga lider. Maari po kami maabot sa (0917) 892 4098.
